The Next Chapter… Yellow Leaf Marketing

“Never choose to be a worker; but when once God has put His call on you, woe be to you if you turn to the right hand or to the left. We are not here to work for God because we have chosen to do so, but because God has apprehended us.” – Oswald Chambers

I must say, I do feel pretty apprehended these days…

For the last 3 years, my beautiful bride and I have had the pleasure of working for Family First in Tampa. Since January of 2010, I’ve had the honor to build and grow the social media presence for the All Pro Dad, iMOM, Family Minute, Mark Merrill and Tony Dungy brands. Words will never be able to describe how grateful I am for my time at Family First. I will always look back on my time there as a place where I made awesome friends, learned so much and grew in my faith. I am forever grateful to everyone at Family First for my time there.

…So what’s next?

God has asked me to take an entrepreneurial leap of faith and start a social media marketing agency called Yellow Leaf Marketing. In fact, yesterday (July 5th 2011) was my very first day. Yellow Leaf Marketing has a pretty neat story behind its name. I’d love if you took a few minutes to read it. At the heart of the Yellow Leaf story lies the Gospel and my prayer is that the Gospel will always remain at the core of this ministry-business. I can’t tell you how excited Courtney and I are for the future of YLM. The scripture that we have held tightly to over the last few months is Hebrews 10:23:

“Let us hold unswervingly to hope we profess for He who promised is faithful.”

I’m convinced that God calls us to step out in faith and start new things for one reason – to bring Him glory. That is my prayer for YLM – that above all, He would be glorified. That many people will hear about what His Son has done for us at Calvary and that many would come to know and trust Him.

Courtney will continue to work and serve at Family First as the Website Manager. It will be the first time since before we were married that we haven’t worked together all day, every day. It will be a trying season, indeed. However, “He who promised is faithful” right?

We would truly appreciate your prayers as God begins to grow Yellow Leaf Marketing. Please pray that God’s will would be done through this ministry-business and that He would mold it into whatever He chooses.

I’d love for you to connect with Yellow Leaf Marketing a little further! Here’s how:

Seth Godin: Are You a Manager or Leader?

Seth Godin is brilliant. Also, I want his glasses. Enjoy.

Boasting…

My prayer for today… and every day…

“If this life has anything to gain at all
I count it lost if I can’t hear you, feel you, ’cause I need you
Can’t walk this earth alone
I recognize I am not my own, so before I fall
I need to hear you, feel you, as I live to make my boast in you alone
With every breath I take, with every heart beat,
Sunrise and the moon lights in the dark street
Every glance, every dance, every note of a song
It’s all a gift undeserved that I shouldn’t have known
Every day that I lie, every moment I covet
I’m deserving to die, I’m just earning your judgment
I, without the cross there’s only condemnation
If Jesus wasn’t executed there’s no celebration
So in times that are good, in times that are bad
For any times that I’ve had it all I will be glad
And I will boast in the cross, I boast in my pains
I will boast in the sunshine, boast in his reign (rain)
What’s my life if it’s not praising you
Another dollar in my bank account of vain pursuit, I do
That count my life as any value or precious at all
Let me finish my race, let me answer my call”

suffering with him

Suffering. It’s biblical. It sucks. It’s totally worth it. It’s got to be present in the life of a believer or something is dreadfully wrong.

This is a pretty bold statement. However, Romans 8:17 backs it up…

“Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co‑heirs with Christ, IF indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

I’ve read that verse many times in my life, but it wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that the “IF” jumped off of the pages. We’re only co-heirs with Christ (sons and daughters of God) IF we are suffering with Him. Suffering for the believer is pretty important. The believer’s life is not supposed to be easy – it was never meant to be a walk-in-the-park. We have to stay faithful through the suffering.

Hebrews 11: 6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Don’t you think that if we’re earnestly seeking Him, we’ll begin to take part in some of His sufferings? We must be faithful and believe that He’s there through our suffering. He’ll reward our faithfulness; as the end of the verse says. However, I don’t think this reward will be an earthly reward. This isn’t prosperity gospel stuff. This is “lay down your life and suffer for His Name, and your reward will be eternal – not on earth.” It’s not supposed to be easy.

Then comes the “why?” question. “Why do bad things happen to good people? To great men and women of God?” My wife, has helped me see this answer so clearly. The “why?” question doesn’t accomplish anything. The reward for this suffering happens in Heaven… we can’t see it yet. She heard an interview on the radio recently where they were talking about suffering and the “why?” question. The man being interviewed (who had recently lost his close friend in a car wreck) summed it up by saying, “When you’re face to face with Jesus, looking at His glory, you’re not going to care about those things.” Wow.

May we all live our lives as co-heirs with Jesus – taking part in His suffering. So that one day when we’re face to face with Him, we can catch up on old times together instead 0f scrambling to make up for lost time.

…Just needed to talk this one out….

Dear Turning Point Church

Thank you. Thank you for 2 ½ wonderful years together. This was a season in my life and in Courtney’s life, that we will be forever grateful for. During this season there were so many things that happened that we could be grateful for, but most of all we’re grateful because this season challenged us, stretched us and taught us – taught us to grow.

As a first semester college senior you welcomed me in to lead you in worship each and every Sunday. You saw me through the last year of mine and Courtney’s engagement and welcomed us back from our honeymoon after we became one.  We worshiped with you through our first year of marriage. We fought the fight together through the times of question and uneasiness when Paul and Karen moved to Singapore. We stayed strong and believed God had greater things for them and us at Turning Point. We worshiped hard through that interim time. We rejoiced together and gave God glory when God provided Mike and Jenifer. Turning Point continues to grow stronger and stronger. God will always provide if His people will surrender to Him and let Him run the show.

I’d like to take a second and say a little something to each member of the worship team…

Chris – What an incredible blessing it was to have you take over the words for us. It really made our entire worship experience better. Your dedication to excellence really made us all have to pick up our game a little bit! You’re a huge part of this team and you make everyone better! Thank you!

Erick – Thank you for your intensity. I’m serious! You were a great addition to our team because you were dead set on making our sound the best it could possibly be. No ifs, ands or buts. You were such a quick learner and I loved watching you be a sponge and just soak it all up. Turning Point worship is better because you are the sound guy. Thank you!

Joe – I’ve loved being “Johnny Rotten” to you for these last few years. Your friendship and zeal for our Lord have been such an encouragement to me. I pray that you and Denyse continue to grow in your marriage and in the Lord. Love you, brother.

Justin – Words cannot express how blessed we were to have you join the team when you did and blow us away by your talent on those keys. It was an absolute honor worshiping with you during this time in your life. We all can learn something from your “praise Him through the storm” attitude. You’re a blessing to so many. Keep chasing that finish line, brother!

Greg – I always kind of looked to you as my co-leader in case I never told you. I loved having you up there with me, man. I’m sorry if our weeknight practices went a little too long sometimes but, hey, what can I say… we were always havin’ fun! You’ve got some awesome percussion skills, a great voice and an even greater heart for worship. Please continue to use them all for His glory on Sunday mornings!

Tammy – To the best page-turner in the land! Tammy, thank you so much for all of your encouragement. You were always there for me with a positive word. You, like your husband, have such an awesome heart for worship. It was a blessing to sing and serve alongside you! Thanks for everything!

April – To the professional! April, you’re an inspiration. I can’t tell you how much of a blessing it was to worship with you. Your ideas, heart, thoughtfulness, encouragement, work ethic and excitement made me a better worshiper just from watching you. Thank you.

Denise – I hereby give you permission to return to the way you guys used to play the songs before I got there and messed it all up! Just kidding. Denise, you’re servant’s heart is truly a sight to behold. You’re love for the children in our church and for worship really shows and it’s really an inspiration. You do so much for Turning Point – out of love. If I had some extra money, I’d buy you a cowbell as a parting gift. On second thought… I’ll leave the cowbell-ing to Ron!

Jarrod – Uhhh can you turn your monitor down a little bit? Hahahaha! Just kidding bro! Jarrod, your love for music made me appreciate worship from a musical side so much more. I saw you improve so incredibly much over these last few years. I loved watching and hearing you rip that bass up! I can’t wait to see what God does with you in the future.

Randy – To the best guitarist I know. Truly. You’re incredible. And you’re heart for our Lord and worship to Him outshines anything you could ever do on the guitar. You were always there with an encouraging word at just the right time – thank you. I will truly miss shredding it up with my boy Randy! Thank you for everything, brother.

Chris Carpenter – Thanks for all you did for us over the years bro. From helping with the sound to doing words to just about everything! I hope whenever I have kids they grow up like you. Keep up the great work! You’re the man!

Mark – Thank you so much for your dedication to the praise team. You (like Chris) have done so much for us over the years. Taking care of our lighting was so important to me. It really made a huge difference having one person handle this and you did a great job! Keep it up! God’s got great things in store for you – just keep living for Him!

And last but not least… Ron. – What can I say? If only you were a bit more enthusiastic… Ha! I sure am glad YOU were the one who we got to keep in a cage! Ron, you’re the man. Musically, I watched you improve so much as a drummer to the point where I couldn’t wait from week to week to see what you’d come up with next. Your passion for our God is contagious. And we’re all better because we know you. Thanks for always lifting my spirit and my confidence. I consider you the musical backbone of our team and I hope you keep using this great gift God has given you on Sundays at Turning Point.

Once again, Turning Point, thank you so much for a great season. I’ve loved being able to worship with each and every one of you. I wish you could see yourself worship like I’ve been able to do… it’s a beautiful sight. Keep listening for God’s voice and His voice alone.  Thank you for your love and friendship. Courtney and I are excited about this next season in our lives… even though we’re not quite sure what it entails – we have a wonderful peace from God that this is the first step towards it. Keep following Him and Him alone. You’ve been such a blessing in our lives. He truly has greater things in store for you.

Forever grateful for Turning Point Church,

Danny
